Although I love a race, sometimes the best ones are the ones we do at our own pace for fun. I have included a list below of some of my favorite trails that I have explored in the state!

Buttermilk Loop/ Northbank Trail
Richmond, VA
This is a great trail right in the heart of the city. It is a 6.2 mile loop that follows the James River and combines rocky and wooded trails with river views. It is a bit challenging to run for beginners but walking, and stopping to enjoy the scenery is highly encouraged

Virginia Capital Trail
Richmond, VA to Williamsburg, VA
The Capital Trail is the perfect option for a smooth and steady paved route. This is a 52 mile bike path stretching all the way from Richmond towards Jamestown. This passes alongside the James River and highlights great views of Richmond City from afar. It also crosses through many wooded and rural areas. Because of the length, this trail is great for an out-and-back run at whatever mileage you would like.
Virginia Beach Boardwalk
Virginia Beach, VA
The Virginia Beach Boardwalk is a great spot for an easy run with ocean views. Growing up in Hampton Roads, I visited the boardwalk often and have great memories here walking my dog or spending time with my family and friends.
